Why TopYa!?

The TopYa! app is bringing back the kid-driven, sandlot environment that has faded for this generation. 70% of athletes quit sports by age 13 because it’s no longer fun. Billions in revenue is lost and the trend is fueling a youth obesity crisis with massive life and healthcare cost impacts. The TopYa! platform meets this generation where they are by making sport fun again through the very mobile devices that otherwise compete for their time, attention and level of activity. Kids get active and build their skills using TopYa! by participating in video based challenges from coaches, celebrities and other experts as well as from other kids from around the world. Sports organizations and schools can engage with kids at-home through TopYa! to keep practice going off the field. We’re passionate about getting kids moving around here!

Where we need your help

As a Lead Front End Developer, your focus will be building new features in the web version of our TopYa! app using Angular, Bootstrap, Typescript and Git. You’ll help establish our practices and build out our framework. We are agile pragmatists, using a Pivotal Tracker to manage a Kanban-like process.

Who you’ll be working with

You'll work closely with our full team bringing us to about a dozen. We are expanding to new sports and geographic markets through major partnerships each striving to deliver upon a similar mission for their youth members and audiences. Be ready to roll up your sleeves, occasionally wear another hat, and get busy.

What would be useful for you to bring

Ready to learn. You already know the frontend development landscape changes quickly, and you want to keep up.

Desire to execute on a big mission.

3-5 years experience building moderate or complex web applications, a substantial portion of which should have been using Javascript frameworks such as Angular, Ember, Backbone or Knockout.

Big plus if you have worked with typescript and are ready to help us move to Angular 2 when it’s ready.

Write reusable, maintainable, testable code.

Understanding of how to manage different development tracks (bug fixes to yesterday’s release, small features for today’s, big changes for next month) using Git branches and multiple testing environments.

Ability take screens from mockup (we use Sketch) to HTML & LESS.
